3 Freshman Year Learning Experiences that are Essential

1. Going Out On A Tuesday Night

Yes, one of your friends birthday’s will be one a Tuesday, yes you have to celebrate the “college way” by drinking. If you don’t go out with them on said Tuesday, you’ll probably be left out of tons of inside jokes and miss a crazy night that you just can’t believe that all happen. You need to take every chance you get to go out with your new college friends, you never know who might end up being in your wedding one day. You’ll complain about how hungover you are in a group text with your friends and feel slightly better knowing they’re all suffering the same fate as you.

2. Going to your First Basement Party

If you have already been thur freshmen year, you know the drill. You walk into a house party – you go to the basement. That is where all the action happens, you’ll find the beer pong table, the dance floor, the group of girls you’ve been looking all night.

Don’t worry about the ~funky~ smell or the “gum” on your shoe. Those will all be gone in the morning (maybe not the gum), the memories and lessons you make and learn at house parties will help you though the bar scenes when your get there.

3. Realizing How Important Class is

While I am all for going out and spending as much time out of your dorm as possible, there will come a time where you realize you are at this college for a reason – to learn. Freshman year is a lot of fun, but also these professors are trying to teach you. Respect them, they care about you. Showing up to class hungover everyday is not respect. You’ll quickly learn after you fail a couple of quiz and start missing homework, that the union or library is also a great place to hang-out on a Tuesday night.

That is what freshman year fun— making mistakes and learning from them, and then warning others not to make the same mistakes. Don’t say you weren’t warned!
