Thinking About Getting a Dog?

It can happen to everyone. You see this great dog that’s looking for a home and gives you that big-eyed look that says “pick me” “love me” “bring me home”

Falling in love with a dog is easy. Especially a little cute fluffy one. Sharing your home with a puppy can bring you so much happiness. There’s no doubt that dogs can give unconditional acceptance and loyalty, provide constant companionship, and even help relieve stress after a hard or busy day. Heck, they are emotional service dogs, they are proven to help improve your emotional state.

However, making the decision to get a dog shouldn’t be taken lightly. Owning a dog takes a lot of time, commitment, and money – years worth, in many instances. Here are some things to think about.

Why do you want a dog?

It’s a simple question, but one many people fail to ask themselves before they get a dog. Getting a dog just because it’s “the thing to do,” or because they are cute to look at may end up being a big mistake. When Jordan and I decided to get our dog, Doc, we asked ourselves this question a lot. It came down since we live in the country, Jordan didn’t like staying out there by himself when I am at school. I wanted some comfort when Jordan would travel and I would be home alone.

Is there enough time in your life for a dog?

Dogs are companion animals and cannot be ignored just because you’re busy or too tired to deal with them. They require a lot of care, which includes feeding, exercising, and socializing – dogs need companionship every day. Jordan and I work all day, and it happens where we get home and are just to exchusted to play with Doc. These are the nights where Doc is invited inside (downstairs only) and we can all sit together and watch TV and relax together. While Doc is still a puppy these moments of relaxing are just that, moments. But I know it’s important to him.

Your dog is yours for life

You are your dogs whole life. They rest their whole day just waiting for you to come home. Love your dog to pieces, and they will be your greatest friend.
